OPEN CALL FOR 15th MikroFAF – FRESH FRAMES

OPEN CALL FOR 15th MikroFAF – FRESH FRAMES

Open call for young filmmakers aged 15 to 35! Whether your film is fiction, documentary, experimental, or animated – we want to see your ideas come to life on the big screen. Submissions are open until October 6, 2024.

MikroFAF has entered its teenage years – the most exciting and revolutionary ones, so the 15th edition of the festival is entirely focused on young people and their fresh ideas and approaches. The response of young creators worldwide to social issues and needs through audiovisual language will mark the celebration of this milestone edition of the short film festival.

Since 2010, MikroFAF has gone through various forms and phases and continues to be open to authentic ideas, themes, fresh perspectives, and new social struggles through film art. It is important to hear the voices of young people and to insist on peace, tolerance, and freedom together!

CATEGORIES YOU CAN APPLY FOR

1. SHORT DIY FILM

This category is for films made in a DIY or “do-it-yourself” production, celebrating self-organization and free creativity. Films of all types, genres, and techniques (fiction, documentary, animated, experimental, etc.) can be submitted, as long as they were made without the involvement of professional film crews and without professional (financial) obligations during and after production. This includes “no-budget” and “low-budget” films. Filmmakers can be between 18 and 35 years old, and films should not exceed 10 minutes in length.

2. SHORT INDIE FILM

This category also includes films of all types, genres, and techniques, but produced under professional conditions, with a budget. However, it is important that the films retain the author’s unique voice and are free from the pressures of the film industry and commercial trends. Filmmakers can be between 18 and 35 years old, and films should not exceed 15 minutes.

3. STUDENT FILM

All film school students can apply for this category. The student work should be created in collaboration with the university and/or fellow students, regardless of the level of study. Filmmakers can be between 18 and 30 years old, and films should not exceed 15 minutes.

4. JUNIOR FILM

This category is intended for teenagers aged 15 to 18 and their need to express themselves through film or address important topics. Films should not exceed 5 minutes in length. Films created in film workshops, camps, courses, and similar youth artistic programs can also be submitted here.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Up to three films can be submitted per author/group, but for each film, only one category should be chosen. It does not matter in which year your film was made or whether it will be filmed during this open call.

HOW TO APPLY?

Applications are submitted via the FilmFreeway platform, but authors from ex-YU countries can send their films electronically (if they do not have an FFW account) by uploading the film online and sending the information to the festival’s email: mikro.faf@gmail.com.
The necessary information to provide includes:

  • Full name of the author, with the year of birth;
  • Film title and duration, with a link to the film;
  • Category for which you are applying;
  • Year and country of production;
  • Short synopsis;
  • Short biography of the author;
  • Contact phone number and email address of the author/producer.

*Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Note: The festival reserves the right to screen the film multiple times as part of the selection for its annual guest screenings, as well as to use clips or stills from the film for promotional purposes.

We look forward to your submissions!
